Phillip K. Dick’s «The Man in the High Castle», 2015: Totalitarianism has won. Only the branding is different.
Phillip K. Dick’s «The Man in the High Castle» depicts an alternative reality in which the Nazis won WW2. It is ironic that people of the world live today in repressive totalitarian regimes, where an omnipresent propaganda programs the brains of 80% of the population. Only the branding is different.
I listened to the novel of Phillip K. Dick itself in an audio format some while ago. At the time, it left an impression of a personal exploration in an original setting. That of a Nazi controlled United States. The “totalitarian state” line, present in almost all of Dick’s books, was not more pronounced here, it was present but no more then usual, it seemed.
Movies and TV shows became a leading propaganda tool. Today, the output of studios in US, in particular, displays a combination of movie’s creators’ epigenetic stupidity, a possible intentional dumbing down of the audience and an unbearably heavy and perverse propaganda messaging.
I realized just recently that Amazon is now in the business of making TV shows. I came into some of their output before. And it was just the usual garbage. But yesterday I saw that there is something refreshing in their choice of subjects – “The Man in the High Castle” is one of the pilots they consider. It is unlikely that the content will differ a lot from the usual Hollywood mix of stupidity, perversion and propaganda. But the symbolism itself strikes immediately. We do live in totalitarian regimes all over the world. The regimes which combine sociopath intelligence services, militarized police, idiocy, economic repression, omnipresent propaganda and totalitarian surveillance. The only thing really different is the branding.
After browsing “Amazon Studios” site, I realize that there are elements of novel approach to making TV shows. Indeed, Amazon asks for opinion of users, asks them to submit ideas, offers them to weigh in on different possible projects. This should explain “The Man in the High Castle”. If this approach really works, it may be a chance to break the tight hold of the propaganda over the brains of the “free will less” masses. Therefore, I invite you to check “Amazon Studios”, to whatch free the pilot of “The Man in the High Castle”, to weigh in, to suggest ideas and to support counter propaganda projects.

Update, 18.03.2015. There are growing signs of an unhealthy alliance between the crazy ruler of Russian Federation, – Putin or his double, and Merkel’s Germany. So much so, that Germany increasingly looks like the instigator of the war in Ukraine and of all the aggressive behavior of Russia. It is almost as if another Reich was in the making, a German-Eurasian Muslim Reich this time.
Hence, another variation of the poster above: swastika and “Islamic state” banner.
